Fincham Women’s Institute

In 2009 the History Society was lucky enough to be able to look at and scan the WI scrapbooks.  There are 4 books and Christine Dungay,  the President of the WI, also lent other records to scan.

The books were compiled by Christine’s mother Auda Rooney when she was the president of the Fincham WI

Enough women signed up to join and form the Fincham WI. It started on 2nd June 1927.  Signed by E Marjorie Aylmer and Winifred M Aylmer.  Miss Aylmer was a needlework teacher at Kings Lynn High School

The whist drive funds we equally divided between the Nursing Box and the Wool Fund.  The following articles have been added to the Nursing Box, air cushions, enema, douche, and steam kettle.

They still found time for fun and games.

The War Years

Wool was distributed for comforts for our village boys.  We hope to do some knitting for war charities.

May 1942

Two letters were read from men in the far east thanking all who helped with their Christmas comforts.

A very helpful talk on war gases was given by P.C. Mobbs of Marham

May 31st 1944

P.C.Mobbs very ably demonstrated “Bombs” which was very interesting and instructive.
