The parish is very fortunate in having been recorded in detail on three maps that span a period of great change over more than three centuries. The maps show a fascinating lost landscape that reveals long forgotten tracks and commons that once served the community. The maps are peppered with names that are now unfamiliar and buildings such as St Michael’s Church that no longer exist. However, not everything that is recorded is totally alien. A photo/map comparison between the earliest map and modern aerial photography reveals a field pattern close around the village that has hardly changed in nearly 400 years.
