Admiral of the Fleet

Sir Gerard Noel G.C.B. K.C.M.G. 1845 -1918
Admiral Of The Fleet

Sir Gerard was a prime mover in the restoration of the church in 1911. Note the extremely generous donation from the Noel family. The Blyth family were also generous as was the Rev Chase and his family.
This is a copy of the pamphlet the Rector, Rev Chase sent round.

Admiral Sir Gerard Noel was one of the most distinguished senior officers in the Royal Navy. He had an immense reputation as a ship handler and was reputed to be the last officer to handle an ironclad under full sail. Noel was also a frequent contributor and speaker at the Royal United Services Institution.
This is a newspaper account of his life.
