The Memorial Hall beginnings

On 20th January 1946 there was a conveyance of land which is now the playing field and the site of the Memorial Hall. The field called Baynards Hall field and the proposed site of the new hall were shown on the drawing above.
Frederick Gotobed was the owner of the field when he died in 1942 and his ‘personal representatives’ sold the field to the Trustees of a charity set up for the purpose of building a new hall.
The trustees were Leonard Maurice Mason of Talbot Manor,Farmer, Josiah Hunter of Fairswell Manor, Farmer and Ralph Dane of Fincham, Butcher.
The sale price was £150 presumably raised by the village. There are pages of regulations for the Committee set up to run the hall. The first committee members named are:-
Josiah Hunter – The Parish Council
Maurice Mason- The Parochial Church Council
Hubert Robert Wilding – The committee of the various sports clubs in the Parish
Edith Staines – Woman’s Institute
Agnes Woods – Methodist Church
Cressie Marion Laws – Wesley Methodist Church
